This is my first blog on something technical, which i have seen in real. God knows how this is & Is this really a kind of acceptable blog post, but let me call this a try.
This blog is written mostly based on twitter because that is a place where i spend my free time, its kind of hang out zone for me.
Twitter Trending Topics Used in Spamming
Twitter is the most happening social networking/microblogging site. The idea of talking out in 140 chars has hit people’s minds. Twitter is the place where you can talk to anyone & everyone. It is a place where you will see celebrities, politicians, CEO’s , media people, job seekers, Recruiting people etc. It’s a common play ground for all, people talk here in a character limitation of 140 chars, but still happy. Many find this as a place of fun, getting new ideas, friends, parties, promoting, getting news etc.
The idea of twitter was good, there are instances where people who go to unknown places login to twitter & ask for directions, addresses etc. This is one small thing which changed the style of Web in 140 chars. Twitter is becoming a play ground for spammers too.
Twitter works on Follow one another theory, which means you can follow any person you like & you will get to see his /her updates & only his/her updates. Other than this there is something called Trending topics. Trending topics is a topic on which people brainstorm or discuss or in simple way most number of updates happen in twitter. It is very simple to do this, whatever update you are putting, put the particular topic with hash tag. There is something called RT – Re tweeting. Instead of sending one message to all, a person who wants his idea to get promoted asks his/her followers to RT his update or tweet.
The Iran elections, Mumbai attacks, Michael jackson’s death etc became famous through twitter. Infact twitter was finding it difficult to handle more than a lakh updates per minute when MJ died. The latest Victim of spammers & scammers in twitter is google wave. People are using the google wave invitation for spamming.
GoOgLe WaVe
Google wave has started sending invites on 30-Sep-09. People are dying to get one, to become one of those high privileged one to get a sneak peek of the same. However, I got an invite & am happy. But Twitter it seems that google wave invitations is being used by people to get more followers & promote some spam websites etc. People are using this as a new way of promoting their profile, get more RT’s
Which is called as Re tweeting (A term in twitter).
On the day Google Wave was supposed to send invitations, twitter seemed filled with scams related to the invitations & also people getting fooled by some useless URL's most of which are spam. This is what we call exploitation of an idea, Someoone's hard work used by someone else to get a result.
This is the best real time example of exploiting a social networking media & a new product & there by reaching to people & making them forcefully click on urls & advertise things simply.
Twitter Trending topics is famous as well as notorious too.
